Article Summary:
This article introduces detailed statistical data taken from the Japan Patent Office (JPO) Annual Report 2025 Edition, published in July 2025. The Annual Report 2025 is an official publication compiled by the JPO that summarizes both domestic and international trends in intellectual property, together with any significant initiatives implemented by the JPO.
In our previous article (click here), we introduced the JPO Status Report 2025, which provides a concise overview of the current state of Japan’s IP system and the JPO’s main activities, along with high-level statistical indicators. Compared with the Status Report, the Annual Report 2025 provides a fuller and more granular view of intellectual property activity in Japan, presenting comprehensive and detailed statistical tables.
Since no official English version of the 2025 Annual Report has been released by the JPO, this article introduces selected tables with English headings and summarizes key data points to help readers understand the Japanese content.
