Fast-track examination of applications for trademark registration was initiated by the Japan Patent Office (JPO) on a trial basis in 2018, under which applications for trademark registration would receive notification of preliminary examination results within about six months of the filing date. According to the JPO, the program has been suspended as of April 1, 2023, owing to overall reductions in the length of examinations, and no decision has yet been made as to when the program will be resumed. Applications that were filed before March 31, 2023, and that meet the conditions for fast-track examination will still be examined under the fast-track program.
